Heirs of Tradition
In 2003, Javier Fernández and Francisco Rubio turned their dream into reality by launching a unique project: a winery dedicated to crafting Rioja wines in their most distinctive and authentic form.
Thus, Tritium was born, a name that pays tribute to the Roman toponym Tricio, where part of their vineyards are located, deeply rooted in the region’s rich history. This historical link dates back to Roman times, when this village was a prominent center for ceramic production on the Iberian Peninsula. The essence of Bodegas Tritium also lies in the devotion to century-old vineyards, lovingly tended and preserved through generations. With a clear commitment to honoring the finest grapes from these vines, which are over a hundred years old, they began producing wine in an artisanal and sustainable manner.
This historical legacy shapes the identity of Bodegas Tritium, offering an experience that blends five generations of family winemaking tradition with the cultural and historical richness of the region.
A Hundred-Year Legacy
Javier and Francisco decided to restore a 15th-century building located in the old town of Cenicero, creating a winery that features a stone masonry winepress, a vat, and a trujal, along with two magnificent underground cellars 10 meters deep. This place is deeply rooted in five generations of a family dedicated to viticulture, infused with the wisdom passed down through the years and closely connected to the land and surrounding nature.
The reconstruction was carried out while preserving its original structure, revitalizing unused areas for winemaking, aging, and bottling wines from vineyards over a century old. Today, this space stands as a meeting point between tradition, artisanal craftsmanship, and innovation—a window into the world of wine, where history can be felt, and experiences are shared.
Far from fleeting fashions and trends, we have found our place in the hearts of visitors—wine lovers seeking excellence in every glass. Exceptional quality, authenticity, and history are embodied in each bottle, offering a sensory experience that transcends the conventional and delves into the very essence of our land.
